Okay, so the last upload didn’t work so well, sorry about that…we’ll try again.   I have about 100 “selects” from Carnevale, and maybe instead of putting them all in one post, I’ll split them up, and maybe offer a little commentary.

But first, I need a little help.   I’m going to enter some of the photos into a contest and the limit for a series is 12 photos.   I’ve narrowed my selection down to 15 that I think work well together as a series, but I can’ t seem to make that final cut.   If any of you reading this have any opinions on which unlucky photos should get cut from this series, drop me a note.

These photos are from a cross-section of events.  There are some from a drag queen contest, some from the “Grand Cavalchina” ball at the famous La Fenice Opera House, one from a “chocolate party” at Hotel Luna Baglioni, one from the big weekend throwdown in Rialto, and the rest are from a night at Cafe Florian, which is where the hard-core Carnevaliers go to socialize with each other.   This crew, mostly from France, comes down every year with suitcases full of costumes, a different one for each night.  They tend to stick to the same time-period or theme, and so in essence they live in their own personal period piece for a week.   The only thing is, the periods run the gamut from Louis XIV-era France to Victorian England…so it’s kind of like they all got spat out of a time machine into the same place.  Kind of reminds me from that bar scene in one of the Star Wars movies where there are aliens from all over the universe partying together.   Of course ultimately that makes it more interesting.   One thing that fascinates me about the masquerade is that you get to see people’s fantasy selves.    A lot of the people involved really feel that they belong in another time period…

Okay, so here are my selections.  I’ll post more later.
